In fact for some organizations, backup and recovery is the second most important initiative on their priority spend list, right behind end-point security. Data management is becoming an important component of an organization’s security strategy, and as a result, businesses want to ensure that they have an effective backup and recovery strategy in place. And that is where Cohesity comes in, by enabling organizations to take advantage of a next-gen data management platform that protects your business through effective data backup, governance and rapid recovery of key workloads.Ĭohesity Vice President of Product Marketing, Chris Wiborg, had an exciting CUBE interview where he discussed how Cohesity is responding to the growing threat of ransomware attacks. It was no surprise to learn that as cyberattacks occur more often and become more sophisticated, businesses need to be able to easily identify compromised data and recover quickly at scale. And, it has become clear that battling ransomware and cybercriminals is at the top of everyone’s list.Ĭohesity Principal Technologist Theresa Miller led a breakout session early on in the week, where she discussed how to effectively govern data access and detect unauthorized data use. Throughout the event, Cohesity was able to be front and center with customers and prospects to drive interesting engagements and discussions. To combat these challenges, AWS has announced their Mainframe Modernization Service which drastically reduces migration times and automates the majority of the process by first analyzing the mainframe and providing a recommendation as to whether the best option for migration is refactoring or replatforming. Yet, migration is not always as easy as it seems, especially when it comes to complex mainframe migrations. The pandemic has forced many businesses to rethink their infrastructure strategy, and many are making the move to the cloud to simplify operations and complexity. CEO Adena Friedman stated that the goal is to to become the “first market provider that is 100% cloud-enabled” for the 130 countries that Nasdaq services and supports. Additionally, Nasdaq has moved data distribution, revenue management, regulatory reporting and market operations to AWS and plans to build edge compute zones with AWS Outposts. Nasdaq has partnered with AWS since 2008 and is leveraging native services to improve speed, reliability and deliver low latency to customers using the trading platform. Nasdaq, a multinational financial services corporation, shared their story of becoming a Software as a Service (SaaS) provider focusing on equities, derivatives, and more. Tailored Vertical Programs Powered by AWS InfrastructureĪlmost every industry worldwide has been touched by cloud and many are turning to AWS to help drive further innovation. To combat these challenges, AWS announced several new features that automate the detection and management of vulnerabilities across their infrastructure, including enhancements to Amazon Inspector Service which will enable quick detection and remediation to secure cloud workloads. Key Highlights from Adam Selipsy’s KeynoteĪWS re:Invent kicked off with CEO Adam Selipsy taking the stage during the keynote to address several key initiatives for the upcoming year, including:Īs more organizations pivot toward digital-first platforms, the use of cloud-native infrastructure has opened the door to cybercriminals and looming ransomware threats. You could get a higher-end home projector for this money, and although it’s more than fine for casual home watching, the features mean this has to be, first and foremost, a front runner for the best outdoor projector money can buy right now. There’s no game mode and input lag is measured at 62ms – not noticeable unless you’re a competitive gamer but showing that gaming isn’t the focus of the GS50. The HD picture is crisp with good colour reproduction. We found the battery to last well over two hours, but this can be stretched out to almost three, while you can also charge via a USB-C power brick. It’s truly built for portability, with a hard-wearing outer case that is splash resistant, is drop tested to about two feet (or "carrying height"), and comes with a smart carry case. When outdoors and even on a poor surface with the sun out, the projector produced a picture that would be watchable, and, of course, after sunset, it really excels. Volume was kept below 10 out of 50 at home for the most part in our testing, but even when cranked right up to full volume there was no noticeable distortion – so you can listen outdoors without the need for extra speakers. BenQ claims the 2.1 Bluetooth sound is a first for a portable smart projector, and it’s likely the loudest we’ve heard on a portable projector. The BenQ GS50 is a terrific candidate for the best outdoor projector this year, and is one of your top premium choices should you be looking to splash out. Slightly pricy for HD pictures (but worth it for the portability) None of these firmware versions is upgradeable to or from the other because of different controllers and/or RAM. I do install it once every 6 months or so to check for firmware updates. I have the same drive in a machine, and it runs great without it. I had no idea they had so many firmware versions for what is being sold under the same part number (I observed 3 firmware versions in a sample of 6 SU800-256 SSDs: R0247ANR, Q0922FS and R0247AC). 2 My suggestion: Install their software just for the purpose of checking to see if there is a firmware update for your SSD, then uninstall it. If I had to build this RAID array again, I wouldn't have chosen ADATA. ADATA says that running these two firmware versions in RAID is fine. I'm currently running four SU800-256 (Firmware R0427ANR) in RAID10 and keeping an additional SU800-256 (Firmware R0427AC) as a "hot" spare. CrystalDiskInfo is able to report SMART data for the individual drives even when they're in the RAID array, so diagnosing a failed drive is easy. These SU800s are TLC, so we're sacrificing reliability for cost. Replacement of the SSD was as simple as replacing the failed drive with the new drive and the RAID Array automatically rebuilt the replacement SSD. Fortunately, the RAID Array never skipped a beat and the system continued to operate without issues (despite the failing and eventually failed SSD).įor anyone who needs a reasonably high degree of reliability with the ADATA SU800-256 in a desktop or server, I would strongly recommend RAID. The new SU800 is error-free (so far) and RAID controller errors are back to 0. My Intel RAID controller did eventually mark this failing SSD as "Failed" (after less than 30 days of ownership) before I replaced it. I replaced the SU800 that was reporting an increasing number of "Reallocated Sectors Count" and "Reallocation Event Count" SMART errors. Knowing what I know now, I would not purchase ADATA SU800-256 SSDs for a RAID array (too many firmware versions for the same part number). Summary: My RAID10 array is running fine after replacing the failed SU800-256. Also, while modern operating systems and RAID drivers allow trim commands to run on SSDs in RAID, legacy operating systems and drivers may not properly support them, meaning functions such as Garbage Collection become more important for maintaining the highest performance from connected SSDs.Update after replacing the failing SU800-256 in my RAID10 Array For example, Crucial Storage Executive is not fully compatible with some RAID controllers and configurations, and specific functions such as SMART reporting or firmware updates may not work at all in these unsupported environments, requiring the RAID to be temporarily disassembled for updates or troubleshooting of individual drives. In terms of day-to-day use, RAID works similarly to a single disk, but diagnostic tools read data from a RAID configuration differently than they do a single SSD or hard drive. Refer to support for your motherboard, operating system, or dedicated RAID adapter for detailed instructions on setup and management. Steps to configure RAID vary depending on the exact type being set up, but generally an array is configured in a RAID adapter's firmware utility or your system's UEFI or BIOS, then an operating system looks at the array as a destination to partition and begin writing data to, either installing an operating system to the RAID or using it as a secondary volume. Software RAID is generally cheaper to configure and use, but investing in dedicated hardware to set up RAID reduces CPU and other system resource usage to manage the array. Hardware RAID uses a dedicated RAID controller to manage the installed drives and software RAID uses software within your installed operating system to do the same. The differences between these arrays are in how many disks are required and how they are used to boost performance while allowing for one or more drives to be lost before data loss occurs. Additional types exist when a combination of striping and mirroring are used, such as RAID 10, RAID 5, and RAID 6. RAID descriptions include a number as shorthand for what kind of operation the collection of disks is configured for, with a striped array being commonly referred to as RAID 0 and a mirrored array as RAID 1. Performance and capacity differences across connected drives reduce performance and usable capacity in every disk in the array to that of the lowest performing part. These arrays work best when all connected drives are identical, but in many RAID environments different disks can be used. They can also provide parallel operation so that read and write operations can be split across devices to increase performance as multiple disks can be used at once for a given operation (called "striping"). They can provide duplication of data so no files are lost in the event of a drive failure (called "mirroring"). RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) configurations use multiple SSDs or hard drives. About Outbyte, uninstall instructions, EULA, Privacy Policy. Compatible with: Windows 10/11, Windows 7, Windows 8 Now, an intelligent individual has created some software that allows you to decrypt that with the master password, so you can use those files as a backup along with BitwardenDecrypt. It's simply unlocked via your master password. I'll include this for completeness sake, whenever you install Bitwarden on a device, particularly windows (native programs, particularly, so the Windows Bitwarden install, I'm unsure how the browser extensions do this, but they have to store it somewhere), and you log in for the first time, it creates a file in the directory where Bitwarden is installed called data.json which is your vault in it's entirety, including your encryption key. I'm sure people have uses for them, but most of the people I've seen that wanted an encrypted export format were very unhappy with what they came out with, as if your account is in tact, why do you need a backup? If your account isn't in tact, it can't be used, nor can it be used if you rotate your encryption key. So for backup purposes, they're not useful. If you rotate your account encryption key, replace any old files with new one that use the new encryption key.Īccount Encryption Keys are unique to each Bitwarden user account, so you won’t be able to import an Encrypted Export into a different account. Rotating your account’s encryption key will render an Encrypted Export impossible to decrypt. The following is from Bitwarden's page on their encrypted exports. These exports are encrypted using your account’s encryption key, which are generated on account creation and unique to each Bitwarden user account. Vault data can be exported in an encrypted JSON file. If the key is rotated, or you don't have access to your account, the backups are useless. The encrypted JSON export format is tied to your Bitwarden account being accessible, and the encryption key not being rotated. So, to be clear, do not use the encrypted JSON export. I simply don't want to send you down a path that would end up being more frustration and confusion that help. Sure, you could spend the time and learn, but I'm getting the vibe when you need to ask these simple questions (simple, not stupid!), you probably aren't comfortable with a command line interface. There are ways to automate this, with Bitwarden-CLI and 7zip via the CLI to create a script to automatically back it up to an archive, but, and I honestly mean no offense by this, I think that might be a bit too complex for you. "Joan ""the bone"", Anne",Jet,"9th, at Terrace plc",Desert City,CO,00123 Stephen,Tyler,"7452 Terrace ""At the Plaza"" road",SomeTown,SD, 91234 John,Doe,120 jefferson st.,Riverside, NJ, 08075 I suspect you might need a guide on using 7zip to create an encrypted archive as well, so here is one.Įach entry would look something like this:ĬSV files are a file format standing for Comma Separated Values, it is also human readable, but in a text editor, perhaps not as easily, though you could open it in Excel, Google Sheets, any spreadsheet software, and it'd read it like any other spreadsheet.Īn example csv file I found here with 6 addresses looks like this: JSON is human readable in a text editor, and both the CSV and JSON version can be imported back into Bitwarden or basically any password manager out there. I would not recommend using the encrypted JSON format, use the normal, plaintext JSON format, and if you want encryption, just add them to an archive with 7zip, and encrypt it with a password. You have 3 choices (JSON, CSV, and encrypted JSON), but I would only recommend two, and of those, I'd recommend the plaintext JSON export. You can also make backups if you're concerned and aren't using the account on a regular basis.īitwarden's help article on how to export your dataĭo take note of what is exported and what is not. Generally, I've seen that most inactivity deletions from other platforms I've gotten have been from not using it for more than a year.īut again, this is just generalized information, there's nothing specific with Bitwarden. That's about how long it took Yahoo! Mail to start deleting unused email addresses, 2 decades. Given, like you said, the tiny amount of data that a free account requires, I don't see this happening, if ever, until decades down the line. Then they'll send a few more reminders up until they delete it. They'll email the associated email, letting you know your account is considered inactive, and if you want to keep it, you have X months to log in, otherwise it'll be deleted. Also, just want to point this out, while Bitwarden, to my knowledge, has never flushed out accounts, the process of how they'd do so is fairly easy to predict as it's more or less become standardized across email hosts and other data platforms. The food was much better than I imagined and there was tons of street art everywhere which I was not anticipating at all. The city sits in a valley (that was once the ancient Lake Bonneville) surrounded by mountains, so it’s quite picturesque. First, the scenery surrounding Salt Lake is STUNNING. However, this city surprised me in a few ways. To me, Utah’s gems are its natural landscapes and epic geological wonders (other than Park City, which I adore). I’ll be honest-I didn’t have the highest expectations for Salt Lake City. When I did a big road trip through Utah, Colorado and Wyoming a couple of years ago, SLC was our starting and ending point, and it made for a great base to kick off our trip.īut whether Utah’s capital is a quick stopover or your final destination, you’re probably wondering what the coolest things to do in Salt Lake City are.
